If you like food you’ve come to the right place. We love food too. Especially Singaporean food. Singapore’s cuisine, just like its people, is colourful, diverse and uniquely Asian. Get a taste of Western, Malay, Chinese, Indonesian and desi khaana with our Singapore Food Guide.
Char Kway Teo
Char Kway Teo is to Singapore what bhel puri is to Bombay. Cheap, fast and ubiquitous. Made with flat rice noodles, fish cakes, cockles, eggs, spring onions, soy sauce, bean sprouts, pandas (not really) and sausages this dish is the definitive Singaporean snack. Some say that the dish is a heart attack on a plate, but who wants that negativity?
Where to eat it: Hill Street Fried Kway Teo, Bedok South Market and Food Centre.
Laksa
Found in every Singapore food guide, Laksa delectable bowl of rice noodles, chicken, shrimp and eggs in oodles of spicy curry is exactly what you need to brighten up your holiday.
Where to eat it: 928 Yishun Laksa, Yishun Central.
Hainanese Chicken Rice
This one is widely considered Singapore’s national dish. A mouth-watering preparation of steamed chicken and rice cooked in chicken broth. Pour some dipping sauce over your meal and you’re good to go. When Visa applications bring you down, this is what you should think of to keep you going.
Where to eat it: Chin Chin Eating House, Purvis Street.
Roti Prata
A lot like the Kerala parotas we have come to love, Singaporean roti prata is a flat bread made from maida and slathered with ghee. It is usually served with mutton or fish curry. This dish can also be eaten with a delicious south Indian style veggie curry which is a boon for vegetarian travellers.
Where to eat it: Mr and Mrs Mohgan’s Super Crispy Roti Prata, Crane Road.
Nasi Lemak
This Malaysian crowd puller is a personal favourite. A simple yet delicious rice dish, it is served on a banana leaf with fried chicken, fish, eggs, chilli sauce, peanuts and fresh cucumbers. Wholesome and filling, nasi lemak is great for lunch as you take a quick break from shopping on Orchard Road.
Where to eat it: The Coconut Club at Ann Siang Hill.
Wanton Mee
Made with a mix of prawn and minced pork, Singapore’s wantons are unlike any dumpling you’ve eaten before. Served dry with green veggies and barbecued pork with sauce that’s sure to make you shed a tear or two. Usually made fresh at one of Singapore’s street food stalls, this is one snack you have to try on your Singapore trip.
Where to eat it: CCK 190 Wanton Mee on Circuit Road.

Most of what you see on this list is street food. While you will find laksa or nasi lemak in a Michelin star restaurant, eating out of a plastic bowl in a food stall with questionable hygiene has a charm of its own. Travel, after all, is so much more than #foodgram.
