The much awaited Water Taxi services from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai was inaugurated today by our Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, in the presence of the Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray yesterday. The Jetty services will begin from the Domestic Cruise Terminal (DCT) at Ferry Wharf in Mumbai to Navi Mumbai destinations such as Nerul, Belapur, Elephanta Islands.

Work on the Belapur Jetty started in January 2019 and was completed by September 2021. The main purpose to start these services was to ease the road traffic congestion and encourage use of Mumbai harbour for transportation. It is expected to cut the commuting time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai by approx. 30 minutes to an hour.

Two operators out of four will initially provide taxi services of speed boats and catamarans for mass transportation. Additional jetties for water taxi and Ro-Pax ferries (Roro) will be started depending upon response received for the Water Taxi services. There is shared as well as private taxi services available.
