Which other airport could boast about the fact that they provide equally exciting and engaging things to do at the airport for travellers entering their country. Being a receiver of the ‘Best Airport in the World’ for straight 8 years in a row is a big deal (2012-2019). However, Singapore’s Changi has been able to manage this feat effortlessly. The Changi airport should definitely be one of Singapore’s unmissable attractions when you choose your ideal Singapore tour package.
A delayed departure at Changi Airport? Missed a flight and waiting for the next one? Or just want to spend a few hours at the airport? There for sure is no other airport in the world that would keep its visitors so engaged, both the tourists and locals. For sure there are many things to do in Singapore, but this airport just adds up to the experience.
All these activities and attractions are spread across the three interconnected Terminals 1, 2 and 3. All these are within the same building premises and well-connected via Changi’s ‘SkyTrain’ monorail system. Some of the activities are only recommended if you have a stopover of more than 5.5 hours (timeframe suggested by Changi airport officials).
1. Rain Vortex
A mix of technology and nature, the HSBS Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall is a sight to behold. Housed in a glass and steel dome and surrounded by the lush Shiseido Forest Valley, making it a great background for photos. This attraction is near the Arrival Hall in Terminal 1. There are also several other attractions, adventure spots, retail shops and dining options nearby including the mesmerizing Kinetic Rain Rain Art Installation.
2. Orchid Garden
A nature haven in the middle of an airport? Yes. Among Changi’s 5 gardens, the Orchid Garden is the most splendid. With over 700 orchids of 30 varieties on display representing the 4 elements of nature. The White Orchids represent ‘Air’, rare brown and green orchids represent ‘Earth’, floral columns simulating giant candles represent ‘Fire’ and the blue and violet orchids represent the ‘Water’ element. There is also a Koi Carp below the suspended wooden walkways.
3. Butterfly Garden
Among all the floral gardens there is this one fauna garden full of butterflies (the world’s first). Amid lush greenery and a 6m grotto waterfall has over 1000 butterflies of up to 40 different species. You can observe the butterflies in their natural habitats from close and learn more about these butterflies at their Education Corners. It is also a great spot for photos. This is easily one of the best free things to do at Changi airport.
4. Free Massages
The only way to destress before a nice long vacation or after a long flight to Singapore would be a nice and relaxing massage. You can find several banks of automatic foot massage chairs scattered across all the terminals. The best part is these machines are absolutely free and give a relaxing experience for 15 minutes. Some of these chairs only provide foot massages while some provide full-body massages. If you want a human touch to your massages, Wellness Oasis in Terminal 1 offers spas, massages and reflexology.
5. Watch a Movie (Free)
An engaging yet not too tiring activity at the Changi Airport is watching a movie in one of the dark and cosy rooms at the movie theatres in Terminals 2&3. You can catch any of the latest blockbusters from different genres here for free. This would keep both the kids and adults busy at the same time. Also, these theatres are open 24 hours so drop by at any time.
6. A Rooftop Pool
This airport has a rooftop pool and a jacuzzi on the rooftop of T1, yes you read that right. At the Aerotel Airport Transit Hotel, you can access the rooftop swimming pool, jacuzzi and hot showers. Relax and chill by the pool availing these facilities for a mere 17SGD or it can be included in your room rates at the hotel. Also, enjoy the 24-hour bar by the pool. The pool is open from 12 noon to 9 pm.

There is no way you can miss the opportunity to ride ‘the world’s tallest slide inside an airport’. The 12m (equals to 4 storeys) high slide speeds up to 6m per second and is ideal for kids as well as adults. The Slide at Terminal 3 starts from Level 1 and goes down to basement 3. For every $10 spent at the airport, you are entitled to 1 ride on the slide. So do some shopping first and then you’ll collect enough points to go on this ride. (Limited to only 10 rides per member per day.)
