With the newest airlines, Akasa Air spreading its wings and ready to take-off, the class of domestic airlines in India is sure to go sky high soon!
Claiming to be a low cost carrier, Akasa Air may prove to be a tough competition to the already present low cost carriers like IndiGo, Air India Express, AirAsia India, GoFirst, and SpiceJet in India.
Akasa Air first created news in July 2021, when Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, also known as India’s very own Warren Buffet, joined the airline as an investor.
As per Akasa Air official website, it was started with the belief that, “the Sky embraces everyone, and so air travel should be inclusive and affordable for all.” Akasa Air is committed to making air travel affordable to one and all, all while being committed to the cause of environmental sustainability with their “newest and greenest” fleet of air carriers that will soon ascend the Indian skies.
Initially, Akasa Air will be connecting Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kochi but will slowly expand its network throughout the country.
As of 22 July 2022, Akasa Air bookings have begun officially and Akasa Air first flight between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will take-off on 7 August 2022 and the first Bangalore to Kochi flight will take-off on 13 August 2022.
Akasa Air’s CEO, Vinay Dube stated in an interview that, Akasa Air will have a single fleet type, a single class of service, and all of the other traits that go with any low cost carrier.
The commuters opting to travel through Akasa Air will get a chance to enjoy the Boeing 737 MAX carrier. The salient features of this aircraft include Boeing Sky Interior, modern sculpted sidewalls, window reveals, spacious legroom, soft comfy seats and a USB port at every seat for the convenience of passengers.
Airline food is usually said to be bland and boring, but there are a few international airlines that serve good food and Akasa Air plans to compete with them as well. With its buy on board meal service called Café Akasa, passengers can choose to pre-book their choice of quality gourmet meal from a wide variety of tasty and healthy options available on their menu.
With the recent launch of its Crew Member’s uniform, Akasa Air has already gained enough attention and created great hype. The uniform includes custom jackets and trousers with sneakers, which is a fresh change from the usual uniform of all the other airlines. These environment friendly uniforms were created using recycled polyester fabric made from plastic bottles recovered from marine waste and the shoes were made by using recycled rubber with no plastic being used at all throughout the entire manufacturing process. Basically, the uniforms are environmentally conscious and comfortable, that’s so cool!
In the past years air travel in India has gained a drastic momentum. With more and more budget friendly and low cost carriers entering the Indian skies, air travel has become a reality for many who only dreamed about it once upon a time. With low cost air fare, and short travelling time, these airlines have changed the Indian way of travelling.
