An AED 128 billion ($35 billion) construction plan is already underway to build the world’s largest airport in Dubai- an upgraded Al Maktoum International Airport. As part of the Dubai government’s new aviation development strategy, this monumental expansion will be five times the size of its current international airport. The Dubai new airport opening date for Phase 1 will be in 2034.
The Emirate’s Prime Minister and Vice President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum a few days ago revealed his plans for the airport revamp and developing a complete city around it. He said on X, “Today, we approved the designs for the new passenger terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport, and commencing construction of the building at a cost of AED 128 billion as part of Dubai Aviation Corporation’s strategy. We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn. Dubai will be the world’s airport, its port, its urban hub, and its new global center.”
