The MASwings flies to different cities from KL and also operates within East Malaysia. The Firefly (budget-friendly option) flies to smaller destinations around the Peninsula and also to Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan in Sabah and Sebu and Kuching in Sarawak. AirAsia also offers a similar kind of network as compared to MASwings.

Trains are also a great mode of public transport in Malaysia. The main train service in the country is looked after by Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM). The Malay Land Trains follow a Y-shaped network. The line starting from Singapore intersects at Gemas town in Malaysia. From there, one line goes to Thailand passing through KL, Ipoh and Butterworth and crosses the border at Padang Besar into Thailand. The other line or the ‘Jungle line’ goes towards Tumpat towards the port of Kota Bharu in Kelantan.
There are two types of trains in Malaysia, the express trains and the local ones. Express are modern, fully air-conditioned, well-maintained and only stops at major stations. While the local trains might not be that comfortable but do stop at every possible station and help reach some small settlements. There are also some sleeper services running between major locations. You can compare the timings, destinations and prices before grabbing the tickets. Most intercity buses are comfortable enough but there are also luxury coaches for routes like KL-Penang.
