After nearly two years of closure, Malaysia is set to reopen its international borders for all vaccinated travelers from April 1, in a further relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions. The move comes nearly two years after it first closed its international borders to slow the spread of COVID-19.

There will be no exemptions to enter the country, allowing tourists, business travellers, students and other visitors to enter the country for the first time since March 2020. All remaining restrictions on opening hours and capacities for businesses, places of worship and events involving large crowds will also be lifted. Malaysia tourism business will definitely rejoice in the fact that the borders are finally reopening for all international travellers.

Here’s what you need to know about the reopening:

  • Fully vaccinated International tourists will be able to enter Malaysia for the first time in nearly two years without any quarantine requirements.
  • Present proof of vaccination certificate such as Vaccination Certificate. 
  • Take a Negative RT-PCR Test not older than 48 hours before departure and COVID-19 Rapid Test Kit-Antigen (RTK-Ag) test upon arrival.
  • Travellers who were infected with COVID-19 within the last 60 days of travel to Malaysia will have to do a professionally administered RTK-Ag no more than 2 days prior to travel
  • Download and activate MySejahtera contact tracing app.
  • Travellers (above 18 years) who are not vaccinated will be required to undertake five days of quarantine upon arrival in Malaysia.
  • Hold a valid Malaysia visa.
  • Purchase COVID-19 Travel Insurance.
  • Travellers must adhere to all the Covid protocols such as wearing face masks in public at all times, maintaining social distance, sanitizing often etc.
