Vande Bharat Express also called Train 18 is the latest fastest train that currently runs in India. It is one of the trains made completely under the “Make in India” initiative and was built using our very own engineering skills. With a maximum speed of 180 km/hr, this semi-luxurious train has automatic doors, operates without locomotives, and is called the successor of the Shatabdi Express. The Vande Bharat Express first began its services on the New Delhi-Varanasi route in February 2019. Later the Delhi-Katra route and recently the Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar route began their operations.

It is one of the top 3 fastest trains on the Indian tracks. Famous for its automatically closing doors this semi-luxurious, semi-high-speed completely air-conditioned train is designed for the comfort of the passengers. The first Tejas Express was inaugurated between Mumbai-Karmali in May 2017 and was instantly a hit with the passengers. Since then, the Tejas Express has already been made available on 3 different routes namely, Chennai Egmore-Madurai, Lucknow-New Delhi, and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central of which the last two are privately run by IRCTC! In fact, Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas Express was the first ever privately run train in the Indian Railways.

Launched in April 2016, it is the first ever high-speed luxury train in India and a serious competition to the Vande Bharat Express. The Gatiman Express covered a distance of 188 km in just 100 minutes between Agra and Delhi! With a maximum speed of 160 km/hr, this train boasts of having sliding doors, GPS, fire alarms, LCD screens, restaurants, free Wi-Fi, bio-toilets, and train hostesses on-board. Yes, you get all the premium airline services on the rails! Currently, the Gatiman Express runs between Delhi (Hazrat Nizamuddin) and Jhansi (Virangana Lakshmibai Junction) only.

4. Bhopal Shatabdi Express

Running between Delhi and Bhopal at the mind-blowing speed of 155 km/hr, it is the first Shatabdi train to be operational in India. The Bhopal Shatabdi Express was inaugurated in 1988 in honor of India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru. It is a completely air-conditioned seating train with 18 coaches and runs every day. You are offered top class passenger services like meals, tea, coffee, and snacks all along the route aboard the premium Bhopal Shatabdi Express.

5. Mumbai Rajdhani Express

The Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express is the fastest Rajdhani train of the Indian Railways. Achieving the maximum speed of 140 km/hr to cover 1384 kilometers, this is the fastest train to have sleeping coaches, AC coaches, luggage coaches, and a pantry car. The Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express has the Alstom-LHB coaches which are equipped with electronic sockets, Wi-Fi, catering services, and meandering through the scenic landscapes from Mumbai to Delhi.

6. Kanpur Reverse Shatabdi

It is simply called the Reverse Shatabdi as it follows the opposite timetable of the Lucknow Shatabdi Express! Kanpur Reverse Shatabdi runs with a maximum speed of 140 km/hr and covers 437 kilometers between Kanpur and New Delhi. The train has seating cars where all the basic facilities like an onboard meal, tea, and snacks are provided along with plug-in sockets, bio-toilets, and other common services of the Indian Railways.

7. Howrah Rajdhani Express

It is the first fully air-conditioned train in the complete network of Indian Railways and also the first Rajdhani train to provide Wi-Fi services. It is one of the fastest trains on all routes and has a maximum speed of 130 km/hr between Howrah-New Delhi. Also known as the “King of India” and Kolkata Rajdhani, it covers all the destinations on the Buddhist circuit and offers meals on-board to the passengers.
