It’s hard to explain what we mean by the weird and unique places in the US, but once you read through this list you will realize that, visiting the US is not all about going to the Statue of Liberty, or Niagara Falls, or Las Vegas, or Golden Gate Bridge, or the Grand Canyon, or the White House, etc. it is so much more than that! It’s not perfect and picturesque always, sometimes it is weird and bizarre and extremely unique in its own way.
Let us now go through our list of weird and unique places in the US you must visit.
1. Winchester Mystery House – San Jose, California
Built by Sarah Winchester, to ward off the ghosts and the spirits of all the people killed by the firearms produced by her family, this house takes the cake for one of the most unusual places in the US. The house is spread over 24,000 sq. feet, has 160 rooms and was specifically designed to confuse the ghosts and the spirits that the owner believed haunted her. With stairs that lead to nowhere, hallways so narrow you might pop up a rib if you try to force yourself through them, windows opening in other rooms and random doors that lead you to straight into the walls, this house has been a hot spot for ghost hunters and paranormal lovers.
2. Carhenge – Alliance, Nebraska
It sounds like Stonehenge, looks like Stonehenge, but it is not Stonehenge. Where the original marvel of the world is made up of massive prehistoric slabs of stones, this roadside attraction of the US is made up of cars. Not just some random cars but vintage cars which were painted grey to resemble the original monument. Built in 1980’s by Jim Reinders as a memorial to his father, this unique place in the US is easily accessible to the travelers travelling along the US Highway 87.
3. Largest Chest Of Drawers – High Point, North Carolina
A whooping 38 feet high chest of drawers, with giant socks hanging out is one of the major attractions of High Point, North Carolina – the self-proclaimed Furniture Capital of the World. Built in 1926, it is now an antique piece of furniture and a famous crowd puller in the city. But not all flavors are a hit amongst the crowd, some are a major miss. So, to give them a proper farewell, they created a graveyard of flavors where the ice cream flavors that couldn’t create a wave end up. The Ben n jerry’s factory in Waterbury has an attached graveyard paying homage to its not so successful flavors where currently 34 failed flavors are “buried”. If you are planning your US holiday package, you must visit this one of a kind flavor graveyard and add it to the list of unique places in the US that you have visited.
5. The Wave Organ – San Francisco, California
Just off the coast from the city of San Francisco is a musical instrument made specifically to be played by the ocean. Situated on a wharf and constructed using carefully arranged PVC pipes and concrete, this acoustic instrument plays music whenever the tide comes in. The fact that this wharf is a part of a demolished cemetery and away from the city in the ocean makes it quite hauntingly beautiful. Setting sun, eerie oceanic music and the city right in front of your eyes yet out of reach makes this one of the unique places in the US to visit.

The US has an obsession with aliens and UFO’s and life beyond the planet Earth, as it is evident from their shows, movies and let’s not forget their plan to storm the Area-51 to free the aliens trapped in there. It’s no surprise there are quite a few attractions set up for the extra-terrestrials, either to welcome them or to spot them and the UFO Watchtower of Judy Messoline is one of them. Not as much in the unique places in the US list but it sure is weird, initially was built as a part of a joke but later started attracting visitors which in turn became a money making machine for her.
