Mahakal Lok in Ujjain was inaugurated on October 11

On October 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mahakal Lok in Ujjain. It is a part of the greater Mahakaleshwar Temple Corridor Development Project which is stated to cost INR 856 Crore. The 900 metre corridor is India’s largest such corridor with 2 gateways called Nandi Dwar and Pinaki Dwar located at the beginning of the corridor. Apart from the 2 gateways, the corridor also houses 108 intricately carved pillars, murals, water fountains and also includes the Rudrasagar Lake.

Snowman Race to take place in Bhutan

The Snowman race is an initiative taken by the King of Bhutan, with an aim to generate awareness regarding the climate emergency. Compared to other international marathons or even marathons held in India, the Snowman race is considered the most challenging ultra-marathon in the world. More people have climbed Mount Everest compared to people who have completed this race! Expected to be held between October 13 and 17, the race will see 29 international and 9 Bhutanese athletes covering a distance of 203 km at a height of 14,800 feet and even reaching a height of 17,946 feet during the race.  

Hong Kong offering 500,000 free Flight Tickets

Planning a trip to Hong Kong just got more pocket-friendly! All you need to do is get a Hong Kong visa and book your Hong Kong tour package because the Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AAHK) is now providing free flight tickets to Hong Kong. These tickets were bought by the AAHK pre-pandemic to support the aviation industry as a part of a HK$2 Billion relief package. These 500,000 tickets costing around $254.8 million will be provided to tourists and locals. This move was brought in place to provide Hong Kong with the much necessary boost in tourism which was severely affected due to the pandemic.

Did you know that the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is now one of the 100% sustainable airports in India. After switching to using green energy sources for all its energy consumption needs the airport is likely to record zero carbon footprint soon. In order to achieve its vision of “Net Zero Carbon Emission” by 2029, the airport runs on a unique hybrid technology that uses only green energy resources such as solar, wind, and hydro. Out of the total energy consumption of the airport, 5% comes from the onsite solar energy plant and the other 95% comes from hydro and wind energy resources.

Palace On Wheels resumes its Services after 2 years

One of the finest luxury trains in India, the Palace On Wheels resumed its services which were temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The train was given the green flag by the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot along with Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh in Jaipur on October 8. The Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) which owns Place On Wheels, stated that the train is already receiving a great response in terms of bookings.

Mawmluh Caves, Meghalaya – UNESCO’s “First 100 IUGS Geological Sites”

A proud moment for India and another reason for nature enthusiasts to book their Meghalaya tour packages. The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sagma tweeted, “Mawmluh Cave in Sohra, Meghalaya known for the ‘Meghalayan Age’ has been selected by @theIUGS (@UNESCO) as one of the ‘FIRST 100 IUGS GEOLOGICAL SITES’ in the world.” Mawmluh Cave also known as Krem Mawmluh is the 4th largest cave in the Indian subcontinent and is known for stunning stalagmite formations. The official announcement will be made during the 60th Anniversary Event of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) in Zumaia, Spain.

Remembering the Mahatma, from the USA to South Africa

On the recent 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Mohan Hira, co-founder of the Mahatma Gandhi Remembrance Organisation (MGRO) spoke about the revival of the Tolstoy Farm, an ashram that Gandhiji established. The Tolstoy Farm was the unofficial headquarter of the Satyagraha campaign that started against the discrimination of Indians in Transvaal, South Africa. The Consul General of India in Johannesburg, Anju Ranjan plans to get Tolstoy Farm declared a heritage site.
In other news, the first ever Mahatma Gandhi Museum opened in Atlantic City, USA. The ever growing Akasa Air is ready to let you fly with your fur babies soon! From November 1, you can travel with your furry friends on-board while you travel with Akasa Air. So far, only Air India allows pet owners to travel with their pets. However, they have a combined weight limit of the pet and the pet carrier, which is 5 kg. Whereas Akasa Air has a combined weight limit of 7kg for the cabin and 32 kg for check-in. The whole procedure will be shared on Akasa Air’s official website soon.
