Water Taxi Service between Mumbai – Navi Mumbai was flagged off

The first Water Taxi service was inaugurated on 17 February, 2022 by the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister, Udhav Thackeray. The Belapur Jetty will connect the twin cities of Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, and will only take about 30 to 45 minutes of travel time. Other locations include Elephanta Island, Belapur, Nerul, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). The Water Taxi service fare is around Rs. 800 to Rs. 1200 per person.

Former Chairperson of Turkish Airlines Ilker Ayci appointed as Air India CEO

On February 14, 2022, Tata Group appointed a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director Ilker Ayci, former chairman of Turkish airlines. Ayci is said to assume charge on or before April 1, 2022. Born in 1971 in Istanbul, Ayci is an alumnus of Bilkent University’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration. “Working closely with my colleagues at Air India and the leadership of the Tata Group, we will utilise the strong heritage of Air India to make it one of the best airlines in the world with a uniquely superior flying experience that reflects Indian warmth and hospitality,” Ayci said in the statement.

The Tatas regained ownership of Air India in the last month, about seven decades after losing it to the government. “Ilker is an aviation industry leader who led Turkish Airlines to its current success during his tenure there. We are delighted to welcome Ilker to the Tata Group where he would lead Air India into the new era,” said Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran.

Thailand resumed quarantine-free Tourism from February

Vaccinated travellers from all countries can apply for Thailand visas and visit the ‘Land of Smiles’ under the Test & Go Entry Program from 1 February, 2022 – a move that will certainly boost its tourist-dependent economy.

Bali reopened for Tourism in February first week

Indonesia opened up its Resort Island Bali for overseas travellers from all countries. Bali also resumed direct international flights (Singapore Airlines) for the first time in two years. However, the entry rules are stringent at the moment – Tourists are required to get tested before they arrive, quarantine at a hotel on arrival for three to seven days, free and paid visa on arrival have been discontinued. Moreover, Indians are required to apply for an Indonesia eVisa before their travel date.

Netherlands to remove COVID-19 travel restrictions on high risk Countries from 25 February, 2022

The Dutch Government has decided to remove quarantine requirements on travellers from very high-risk countries. The Netherlands’ very high-risk list currently includes all non-EU countries with the exception of Bahrain, Chile, China, Colombia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kuwait, Macau, New Zealand, Peru, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and Uruguay. Travellers from these countries will be able to enter Netherlands without any strict entry measures, as per the Schengenvisainfonews.

No COVID-19 Test Report required for fully vaccinated and recovered Travellers to enter Switzerland

Schengen country Switzerland has lifted almost all COVID-19 restrictions. It is the latest European country to announce removal of all COVID-19 restrictions on international travellers entering the country. “It will no longer be necessary to provide proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test or complete an entry form,” the Council announced.

Vietnam to reopen borders for Tourism from mid-March

The Vietnam Tourism Ministry is hopeful to reopen fully for international tourists and lift travel restrictions from 15 March, 2022 after a two-year closure. Travellers will be required to to provide their vaccination certificates and take a pre-departure and post-arrival PCR test.

Australia to reopen on 21 February, 2022

Australia to reopen for fully vaccinated international travellers nearly two years after closing its borders. The country had laid down stringent travel restrictions on its citizens and permanent residents in March 2020 to prevent the spread of the virus. Considering the increasing vaccination rate among Australians, Australia relaxed the border restrictions for international students and skilled migrants in November, 2021. Starting February 21, the border would open to all other vaccinated Australia visa holders for tourism, visit, business and much more.

Skydiving in Bhopal, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh to start from March 1, 2022

In a first, the MP Tourism Board has announced skydiving facility in the cities of Bhopal and Ujjain. As per the reports, Skydiving camps will be set up near the Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal between March 1-2 and the airstrip in Ujjain between March 3-6, from where tourists will be able to dive from a height of 10000 ft. The fee is approx. Rs. 31,270/-.

Khajirao Dance Festival to begin from February 20, 2022

The 48th Khajuraho Dance Festival will be held from February 20 until February 26.
