By Train:
Singapore launched its intricate Mass Rapid Transit(MRT) in 1978 and since then it has been growing continuously to cover all parts of the island country. It well connects the Changi Airport to business and heritage spots to the residential areas. There are about six lines and some 130 stations across the island named based on the line and a number in the sequence. This makes the MRT the most used public transport in Singapore as it is both accessible and budget-friendly.
Hours: The MRT operates from 5:30 AM to midnight, with a frequency of 2-3 mins in peak hours and 57-7 mins normally.
Fare: The fare ranges from .83S$ to 1.25S$ approximately. For the tickets, you can either pay in cash, but keep in mind to keep the exact change or use the Singapore Tourist Pass or the EZ-Link Pass which allows unlimited travel for one-day($10), two-days($16), three-days($20).
Buy the pass here or at bus stations, MRT Terminals or 7-elevens.
This transport system helps avoid heavy traffic, is cheap and highly accessible. Use apps like MyTransport to plan better. Avoid taking it during peak hours.

If budget is not an issue and you want a comfortable and handy commute, taxis are a great option for public transport in Singapore. Finding taxis anywhere in Singapore won’t be an issue. You can look for a taxi queue stand, call them in the streets or call them using registered service numbers or through their smartphone apps. There are about seven operators in the country, some of them are:
- Comfort Transportation: (+65) 6552 1111
- CityCab: (+65) 6555 1188

For the cons, taxis can get stuck in congested traffic and the fares can be extremely high, sometimes even surcharges may apply. However, the taxis are metered and work on fixed fares. Don’t forget to take a receipt when you get down. There are also options for sharing a ride with apps like Grab.
