Father – A son’s first hero. A daughter’s first love. Unarguably, a mother’s love, sacrifices, selflessness and other virtues have been extolled far more than a father’s. Be it literature, movies, songs or folklore, it’s always the mother who features largely in all of them, deservingly of course. But the father without reason always has a back seat. He is as loving, as sacrificing, as selfless as the mother but unfairly he gets left behind. Thankfully, there’s Father’s Day and we decided that this Father’s Day, we’ll get our followers to pen what their father means to them. We sent out a contest, ‘Dear Dad.’ A platform to express without any inhibitions their love for the first hero of their life, the first love of their life.
To say we were inundated with the response would be an understatement. Every day we received entries, some poignant, some funny, some heartbreaking, some sentimental, some practical with one common thread running through them all. The silken thread of love for a father. Choosing three winners out of the many was a tough task. Yet we managed. Congratulations to those who won.
