Dubai’s Museum of the Future | World’s Most Beautiful Building

The Museum of the Future ! World’s Most Beautiful Building

Gone are the days when Dubai was just a barren land covered in sand dunes and hoards of camels roaming around. Today it stands heads and shoulders above all in the world in regards of infrastructure and tourism. From palm shaped man-made islands (Palm Jumeirah, Deira Island and Palm Jebel Ali) and a hotel that resembles the sail of a ship (Burj Al Arab), to sky touching sky-scrappers (Burj Khalifa, Emirates Tower), Dubai has given the world one architectural wonder after another. A newest addition to this list is the architectural marvel – Museum of the Future, already being touted as, “The Most Beautiful Building On Earth”.

Museum of the Future, Dubai

About the Museum of the Future:

Announced in March 2015 by the ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with the goal of promoting innovation, creativity and increasing curiosity about technological development for the young minds, Museum of the Future finally opened its doors for visitors this week. Although, the original inauguration date was supposed to be in December 2021, it was later pushed to 22nd of February 2022. This unique date ‘22.02.2022’ was specifically chosen because it is a palindrome and won’t appear in our lifetime ever again.

Design and Features:

  • The Museum of the Future includes three main parts: the green hill, the torso shaped building, and the void. Each of these elements have a significant meaning behind their design:
  • The green hill represents the Earth, rooted in place, time and history.
  • The torso shaped building represents the humanity, with all its strength, passion and thirst to live in harmony with its surrounding.
  • The void represents innovation and unknown future, which the world and humanity can look forward to.
  • Engineered by Buro Happold and designed by architect Shaun Killa of Killa Design Architecture Studio, it is one of the world’s most complicated building to be made.
  • Apart from winning various prestigious awards for designing and innovation, the museum is also awarded a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certificate. LEED is the most widely used rating system in the world for green buildings.
  • The glimmering, futuristic torso shaped building is covered in Arabic Calligraphy. This calligraphy, that is a poem by the ruler of Dubai, also doubles up as windows for the museum. The inscriptions written on the Museum of the Future translate to:
  • “We may not live for hundreds of years, but the products of our creativity can leave a legacy long after we are gone”.
  • “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it. It isn’t something you await, but rather create”.
  • “Innovation is not an intellectual luxury. It is the secret behind the evolution and rejuvenation of nations and peoples”.
  • The Museum of the Futures interior is nothing short of a futuristic movie set, where visitors can explore and interact with the future.
  • This museum has different exhibitions dedicated to different aspects such as, outer-space bio-engineering, ecosystems and resource development, addressing challenges of energy, health, food, water, etc. The museum also has a floor dedicated to children.
