1. Mumbai among the World’s Best Cities for Public Transport
Recently, Time Out released a list of ‘19 Cities With the Best Public Transport in the World.’ Berlin secured the 1st place, followed by Prague and Tokyo at the 2nd and the 3rd places respectively. The list was dominated by many Asian cities such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, Shanghai, as well as Mumbai which occupied the 19th place on the list.
2. India’s First Underwater Metro to come up in Kolkata
With the successful trial of India’s first underwater metro in Kolkata, the Kolkata Metro – country’s first metro service added another feather to its cap! The trial was conducted between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations on the 4.8 km long underwater tunnel under the Hooghly River as part of the Kolkata East-West Metro Project.
3. Nepal, India to sign Cross Border Digital Payment Deal
In order to boost trade and tourism, Nepal and India are set to sign an agreement for cross border digital payment. This agreement will help Indian tourists to make UPI payments using e-wallet apps such as BharatPe, PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm while on their holiday in Nepal.
4. US Visa Fees for several Categories to increase from May 30, 2023
As per US State Department, the United States plans to increase the visa fees of several visitor and non-immigrant US visa categories from May 30, 2023. The US visa fee hike will be applicable to B1, B2, E, H, L, O, P, Q, and R visa categories. However, you need not worry if you have paid the old US visa fee on or after October 1, 2022, as it will be valid for 1 year from the day your visa fee payment invoice was issued.
5. Rajasthan gets its First Vande Bharat Express Train
Rajasthan got its first and highly anticipated Vande Bharat Express Train. The recently inaugurated Delhi – Ajmer Vande Bharat Express is India’s 15th Vande Bharat train and will halt at Gurugram, Jaipur, and Alwar stations on the way. With the launch of this service, the travel time between Delhi and Ajmer which used to take up to 8 hours will reduce to just 5 hours and 15 mins.
6. Pahalgam to soon have Cable Cars similar to Gulmarg Gondola
Soon you will be able to enjoy gondola rides in Pahalgam along with Gulmarg during your holiday in Jammu and Kashmir. The Cable Car Corporation conducted a survey in Pahalgam and will soon be submitting a report for government approval. The ropeway will be set up in the picturesque Pahalgam allowing tourists a chance to enjoy the scenic landscape of the region from cable cars.
7. Japan’s First Legal Casino to come up in Osaka
In a bid to promote tourism, the Japanese Government recently gave the approval to build Japan’s first legal casino in Osaka. Expected to be open by 2029, the casino will be a part of an “integrated resort” facility which will combine hotels, restaurants, convention centers, and entertainment venues.
8. Dwarka in Gujarat to be developed under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme
Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, Dwarka in Gujarat will be developed as a sustainable and responsible tourism destination. The announcement was made by the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Development, G Krishna Reddy who added that financial assistance will be provided under the National Mission on the PRASHAD scheme which focuses on developing and identifying pilgrimage sites across India.
9. Himachal Pradesh plans to develop States New Tourism Capital – Kangra
As a part of Himachal Pradesh State Tourism’s effort to promote Himachal Pradesh as an all-season tourism destination, the state plans to develop the Kangra district as the new tourism capital of the state. With its rich history, local cuisine, natural beauty, and culture, the Kangra district offers a wide range of attractions to visitors.
10. World Jazz Festival to be held in Delhi on April 21, 2023
On April 21, 2023, Delhi will host the 3rd edition of the World Jazz Festival in collaboration with Amersfoort Jazz Festival from the Netherlands. The festival will feature top jazz artists from countries like the USA, the Netherlands, Thailand, Serbia, South Korea, India, and Brazil. After Delhi, the festival will also take place in other Indian cities like Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.
11. World’s First Conservation and Breeding Centre for Asian King Vultures to be set up in Uttar Pradesh
Maharajganj District in Uttar Pradesh is soon going to be the home of the world’s first conservation and breeding center for the critically endangered Asian King Vulture. The state-of-the-art Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and is spread across 1.5 hectares of land in the Gorakhpur forest.
