Our Indian ADVENTURE – A Fabulous Love Story

In 1965, we were finishing our studies and decided (A group of six friends) to travel to India and discover à country that none of us had visited before.

We planned a 2 months trip all around India but also Nepal and Sri Lanka (Ceylon at that time).

Low cost flights did not exist and to have cheap travels we had to take charter flights that would not operate directly from Paris but from Brussels or Luxembourg.

Our financial situation was not very bright but fortunately the cost of living was very cheap in India at that time. To save money we used to take, in some cases, third class night trains. Otherwise our choice for accommodation was the most economic possible. (Youth hostels, YMCA or Salvation Army…..)

If I remember correctly, apart the air travel ticket, our altogether expenses for the 2 months was around 100 US $

During our 2 months adventure we had several opportunities to meet two young French ladies who were doing almost the same itinerary than us. We saw them in different places and sympathized.

One of the two young ladies was called Geneviève. After going back to France, we saw each other regularly and we got married on July 1970.

For our 25^th wedding anniversary, in summer 1995, we took our daughter and made a “pilgrimage” trip to the places we had met during our visit 30 years before (Delhi, Agra, Madras, Kathmandu, Colombo…….)

In 2010 we celebrated our 40^th wedding anniversary with a fantastic 2 months trip to Ladakh, Kashmir and Rajasthan. A fabulous souvenir.

Next year, 2020, will be another important year. We would like to celebrate our 50 years of happiness by another Indian adventure. We have not yet finalized our programme but there are still so many fascinating things to do in India that we are hesitating. (GOA, KERALA, around CALCUTTA, etc…..)
