Navi Mumbai International Airport Opening Date

The DB Patil International Airport (NMIA) is being constructed in four phases. At present, 65% of the work for Phase 1 is complete, including a runway ready for a test landing on 11th October 2024! Reports estimate that the construction of this phase will be complete by the end of 2024. 

If all goes well at the test landing, as per Mr Sanjay Shirsat, CIDCO chairperson, phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai International Airport is estimated to open its runways to domestic flights on 31st March 2025. International flights will be allowed to access the Airport in June 2025.

Navi Mumbai International Airport Address & Accessibility 

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is in Navi Mumbai in the Raigad District of Maharashtra. It sits on the National Highway 4B, connecting Mumbai directly to Chennai. 

As per the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti Yogna, the International Airport interconnects with other public transport to facilitate easy travel. Here are some ways you can reach the Airport quickly: 

Metro: The Navi Mumbai International Airport is easily accessible by Metro Line 2B, joining DN Nagar to Mandale and Metro Line 8, which connects Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to NMIA. Navi Mumbai residents can reach the Airport via the Pendhar Belapur Metro Line. 

Train: The Airport will also be accessible via the new Mumbai-Hyderabad High-Speed rail since it is declared to be the second stop. It also connects to the Targhar Railway station. 

Roadway: The Airport is a 17-minute drive from Panvel. You can also get here from Mumbai via the Sewri Nhava Sheva Sea Link or the Mumbai Atal Setu Bridge. Flyers can access the Airport by driving on the NH 4B or the Sion to Panvel highway. 

Plans are also being made to connect the Navi Mumbai International Airport via waterways to Colaba and Raigad when construction advances to the second phase.

DB Patil International Airport Facilities

Navi Mumbai International Airport Project Details

The construction cost of the Navi Mumbai International Airport is 16,700 crores. It is managed by the Adani Group, which took over in August 2021. The City and Developmental Corporation of Maharashtra (CICDO) will join the Adani group in constructing this marvel. The project was approved in 2019; however, its construction was delayed due to the widespread COVID crisis, finance, and land acquisition problems. By 2022, Adani received 1,160 hectares of land from CICDO to begin the construction. 

On 16th July 2022, it was named DB Patil International Airport after the former Lok Sabha Member by Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde. The Adani group claims that 57% of the work was completed by 2023!

Larsen & Toubro are the main contractors for Phase 1 of the Airport’s construction, and they began building in November 2022. Since then, the Navi Mumbai International Airport status is that it’s currently preparing for the Sukoi MK 30 fighter jet landing on 11th October 2024 to check the airstrip.
