The construction cost of the Navi Mumbai International Airport is 16,700 crores. It is managed by the Adani Group, which took over in August 2021. The City and Developmental Corporation of Maharashtra (CICDO) will join the Adani group in constructing this marvel. The project was approved in 2019; however, its construction was delayed due to the widespread COVID crisis, finance, and land acquisition problems. By 2022, Adani received 1,160 hectares of land from CICDO to begin the construction.
On 16th July 2022, it was named DB Patil International Airport after the former Lok Sabha Member by Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde. The Adani group claims that 57% of the work was completed by 2023!
Larsen & Toubro are the main contractors for Phase 1 of the Airport’s construction, and they began building in November 2022. Since then, the Navi Mumbai International Airport status is that it’s currently preparing for the Sukoi MK 30 fighter jet landing on 11th October 2024 to check the airstrip.
The Airport is estimated to employ over 4 lakh people as soon as it opens. It will also pave the way for infrastructural development in the smaller surrounding towns, including Ulwe, Kharghar, Taloja, and Kamothe. Housing prices in Panvel will shoot up to the rates of the Mumbai Suburban areas!
