“It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on earth has ever produced the expression ‘as pretty as an airport’.

Douglas Adams

Douglas Adams was always big on hyperbole, but his description of airports is spot on. Damp carpets, grey walls, the sound of suitcase wheels dragging on autowalks, and that ubiquitous expression of exhaustion. Airports have always been the dullest part of travel.

But Changi Airport at Singapore is no ordinary airport. The best airport in the world for six years running and the recipient of nearly 600 awards is about to get much, much better.

Five years since the project first began, Jewel Changi Airport is finally ready to see the light of day on April 17, 2019. Spread across 137,000 square feet, Jewel is a stunning new addition that will house a hotel, art installations, gardens, retail and dining options and hundreds of attractions.

Jewel has been designed by Moshe Safdie, the brain behind another Singapore icon, Marina Bay Sands. Brace yourself for the same futuristic yet oddly inviting vibe that’s felt at the Sands. The glass and steel behemoth will hold the Rain Vortex, the world’s largest indoor waterfall, and a five-story high indoor garden called the Forest Valley.

Kiddie Paradise at Jewel Changi

Passengers travelling with kids are in for a treat. The architects of Jewel have brought the city’s moniker of ‘City in a Garden’ to life with the Canopy Park. This 14000 sqm stretch of green has manicured lawns, topiaries and themed gardens that will spirit your jet lag away. The kids will love the slides, nets and mazes built across the park. The star of the show, however, is Foggy Bowls; mist-filled bowls that let your young ones feel like they are floating on clouds.
