Travelling via flight within the country has become quite a common scenario, especially with the advent of so many budget airlines that have made this, once a costly option, an easy possibility. However, even while flying within the country, one must be wary of the requisites of flights to make way for a smooth and hassle-free journey. One such point to remember is to keep your required Airport ID proofs handy. These Airport ID proofs serve as your identification and validate your flight travel. On the other hand, in the event of your failure to produce them, it can not only land you in an unnecessary situation but may even prevent you from taking your booked flight.

For traveling within India, you need to carry to the airport ID proof, like mentioned above. Some airlines also insist that you produce the same credit card with which you bought the ticket so check with your airlines beforehand. Moreover, since it now not mandatory to carry a printed plane ticket, an airport ID proof becomes extremely relevant to validate your identity and allow you to fly.

Following is the list of all the documents you can use as a valid airport ID proof when traveling via flight within India.

  1. Passport
  2. Pan Card
  3. Aadhaar Card

1. Does a Copy of an Airport ID Proof Hold Relevance?

A few airlines may allow you to travel within India carrying a copy of the airport ID proof copies alone but is strongly recommended and highly advised that you carry your original airport ID proof as airlines may insist on verification, and thus, the absence of the original ID proof may prove to be problematic. Having said that, your e-Aadhar card and now m-Aadhar also hold equal relevance as your original Aadhar ID card.

2. What to Do When You Forget to Carry Your Airport ID Proof?

As mentioned before, your m-Aadhar card should suffice to act as a valid identification card for traveling by domestic flights.

3. Is There a Way to Fly When Someone Has No ID Proof

Although carrying an airport ID proof is a must for anyone wishing to travel through air, it is still possible to fly within India, without one. You need to get an affidavit attested by the notary. It must address the customer care manager of your airlines and clearly state your flight number, it’s timing, and the destination and must mention that you do not possess an ID card. Along with this, write in the letter the permanent address of your residence and give a recent photograph. Lastly, get it attested by the Notary Authority with a seal. This should work as a temporary airport ID proof for traveling through a domestic flight.

4. Will a Single Airport ID Proof Work if Travelling in Group or With Family?

While traveling with a large group of family or friends, please make note that every individual must carry his/her own airport ID proof, including children and infants. Any person without a valid or no ID proof will not be allowed to enter the airport in the first place. In case of children, a proper photo ID proof such as a school identification card or birth certificate should suffice.

Disclaimer: Please check the website of the airline on the identity proof required for travel, as the policies may vary for different airlines.
