One of the highest class of international motor racing, Formula One has reached halfway through its World Championship 2022. Let us have a look at the schedule, halfway standings for both Drivers’ Championship as well as Constructors’ Championship and the latest developments in Formula 1 2022.
Made up of 10 teams and 20 drivers, Formula 1 2022 was originally set out to complete 23 races. However, the Russian Grand Prix was cancelled earlier in the year subject to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. So Formula 1 2022 is going to have 22 races. Since the season has completed 11 races with 11 more to go, it is the right time to understand where the season will be headed.
A summary of the 11 races so far in the F1 World Championship 2022:
The Bahrain GP
The Formula 1 2022 season kicked off on the Bahrain International Circuit. The winner of the first GP was Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, from pole position, bagging 26 points from the race. Followed by teammate Carlos Sainz on P2 and 7-time World Championship winner Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) on P3.
The Saudi Arabia GP
The race was held on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. As Red Bull driver Sergio Perez started on pole position, it was teammate Max Verstappen who secured P1 at the end. P2 and P3 were held by Ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz respectively.
The Australian GP
One of the most famous circuits in the championship, the Albert Park Circuit saw another podium win for the young Italian Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc, as he started from pole position. He shared the podium with Red Bull driver Sergio Perez (P2) and new Mercedes recruit George Russel (P3).
The Emila Romagna GP
The Red Bull racing driver Max Verstappen lapped to victory from pole position at the Imola Gand Prix held at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari and he also scored an extra point for the fastest lap in the race. P2 was bagged by Sergio Perez of Red Bull Racing while McLaren received its maiden podium of Formula 1 2022 as driver Lando Norris clinched on to P3.
The Miami GP
After quite some delays, Miami saw the first Grand Prix being held in the Miami International Autodrome around the Hard Rock Stadium. Even though the front row on the grid was occupied by Ferrari and the second row by Red Bull, Verstappen was able to win the inaugural Miami GP slashing both the Ferrari drivers, who scored P2 (Charles Leclerc) and P3 (Carlos Sainz). The race saw quite an influx of celebrities from the movies, music, sports industry, etc.
The Spanish GP
Held at the famous Circuit de Barcelona in Catalunya, the race was a treat for the Red Bull fans. After securing pole position, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was soon out of the race, helping both the Red Bull drivers secure their P1 and P2 positions. Mercedes driver George Russel ended up securing P3.
The Monaco GP
Who else to hold pole position in the race at Circuit de Monaco other than homeboy Charles Leclerc. But, Ferrari’s strategy mistake cost Charles his home race as he dropped down to P4 at the end of the race. His teammate Carlos Sainz was sandwiched on the podium between Red Bull drivers Sergio Perez (P1) and Max Verstappen (P3).
The Azerbaijan GP
Held at the famous Baku street Circuit, the race had several twists and turns. With Ferrari and Red Bull both starting at the front of the grid, the results were disheartening for the Tifosis. It was a nightmare for the title rivals as they faced a double DNF in the race. The Podium was clinched by Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen (P1) and Sergio Perez (P2) with Mercedes’ George Russel on P3.
The Canadian GP
The qualifying for the Candian GP at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, Montreal saw AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc required to start at the back of the grid in the race. The race results were Max Verstappen on P1, Carlos Sainz on P2 and Lewis Hamilton on P3.
The British GP
The Silverstone Circuit has been special to many F1 teams and is home-race for drivers like former World Champion Lewis Hamilton, teammate George Russel and Mclaren’s Lando Norris. But the Grand Prix was a success for Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz as he secured his first P1 in Formula1, with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez on P2 and Lewis Hamilton on P3.
The Austrian GP
The 11th race of the season was held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg and even the pole position was held by Red Bull’s No.1 driver Max Verstappen. However, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc managed to cling to the victory in the race. He was accompanied on the podium by Max Verstappen (P2) and Lewis Hamilton (P3).
