Gosh! Your Germany visa application has been rejected! With so much of planning, a visa refusal could be a totally unexpected dilemma. But if you’ve already shelled out cash for accommodation, flights and all the usual travel expenses, a visa refusal could burn a hole through your holiday savings and leave you feeling rather cheated. Know the reasons behind your Germany visa rejection.

Preparing your Germany visa application can be a lengthy and stressful process. You go through several procedures and at the end you have no guarantee that you will be granted the Germany visa. No matter how many documents you submit or how well you prepare your application, there is always a chance that the embassy will reject your visa application. Do not lose hope! You can always appeal to the embassy or resubmit your application. The wisest approach would be to reapply for the visa. That is because the German Embassy will have a reason why they rejected your current application in the first place so there is little you can do to change their mind.

You are most likely wondering why your application got rejected. You put so much effort into it and it still wasn’t enough. There might be several reasons why this happened, and if you are able to identify where your application went wrong, you have a better chance of improving it when you reapply.

So here are 6 reasons why your Germany visa application could get rejected:

Your intention to leave the country was not clear

This is one of the most important reasons why your visa gets rejected. The applicant fails to show social and economic ties with the home country. For e.g. you fail to show you have job, family or property that you manage and need your attention back in your country.

Tip: Ensure you provide enough evidence and proof that you will return to India after the visit. Provide additional supporting documents such as your School ID and School Enrollment Certificate if you are a student, your ITR & Employment Certificate if you’re an employee, Business Registration & ITR if you’re an entrepreneur. You can also include property documents, proof of investments, Lease agreement in your favor etc.

Improper or missing documentation

Applying for any type of Germany visa necessitates that certain documents be provided by the applicants. These documents are required by the Germany embassy and should be presented and filed as appropriate. The inability to provide all required documents may result in Germany visa rejection.

Tip: For a Germany visa application, some of the documents to be provided includes duly completed application form, photos, return tickets, day wise itinerary, employment proof, proof of adequate financial backing such as bank statements, Income tax returns, other investments etc. Additional documents may be required depending upon your travel purpose.

Financial proofs shown are not enough to support your expenses while in Germany.

The Embassy needs to ensure that you have a strong financial background in order to cover your living costs for the entire duration of your stay in Germany. So, the first reason that they might reject your visa application is because they believe you do not have the financial means to finance yourself.

Tip: When you submit your financial and bank statements, make sure you have more than the required amount in your bank account. There is no specific amount needed, only ensure the balance should be equivalent to the trip cost. This way, the Embassy will know that in cases of financial emergency, you have more funds in your account to cover expenses.

Incomplete/empty application form or irregular signature

Leaving blanks or few segments of the form unanswered is another major reason for Germany visa rejection. Also, if your signature on the passport varies from your signature on the application form or other supporting documents, you will have to face Germany visa rejection right away.

Tip: Stick to a particular signature especially the one on your passport. Make sure you leave no segments blank. If a question is not applicable to you, fill the space with a ‘NA’ (not applicable). Do not leave any blank spaces.

Submitting False travel document can result in Germany visa rejection

There is a common destiny for all the applicants who attempt to present false travel documents to the embassy or consulate, trying to misrepresent their identity, using fake identity. This will result into absolute visa denial and other accompanying unfavorable consequences.

You provided damaged or invalid passport

Submitting a passport that is not kept in a good condition will lead to a visa rejection. Such case can be when passport pages are detached or missing, when the cover of the passport is damaged and so on. Alternatively, the passport is not valid for more than three months from the return date, does not have two blank pages or is older than ten (10) years.

Tip: Check that your passport is in good condition, has at least six months validity with minimum two blank pages.

You applied for the wrong type of visa

Your paperwork MUST match the major purpose of visit. For example, you cannot choose the tourist purpose of the visit while your paperwork indicates business purposes or vice versa. Please, check if this is in correlation so this won’t be the cause of your Germany visa rejection.

Tip: Be specific. You are allowed to choose one type of the visa during your application. In any case, ensure you can provide an adequate explanation on your purpose of travel, duration of stay and time of return.

Past criminal record or involvement in an ongoing criminal case

If an applicant is found with any past or current criminal record, such applicant is most likely to be rejected a visa by the Germany Embassy.

Tip: We recommend you avoid applying for a Germany visa until an applicant is clear of all criminal investigations. The Embassy will thoroughly investigate all information provided. This may eventually be discovered even if such person has tried to cover up the information.

Proof of holding an adequate and valid travel medical insurance was not provided

The other reason that might lead to a Germany visa rejection is the inability to present the appropriate travel insurance coverage for the duration of stay in Germany and the other Schengen Area. The travel insurance was not of the specified amount or was not from the authorized list stated by the Embassy.

Tip: Make certain your Travel Insurance:

  • Provides cover in the anticipated amount
  • Covers the return of applicant in the home country
  • Should be valid all over the Schengen area
  • Covers the entire days of the trip in the Schengen area
