Now the trance of Bollywood may seem to falter, but cricket never fails to bring in the drama in our lives. The Indian Cricket Team, at this stage, is one of the best cricketing teams out there across all formats. The ongoing ‘Asia Cup 2022’ is proof enough. India has by far won 7 ‘Asia Cup’ titles and stands as a defending champion for ‘Asia Cup 2022’.
The 15th Edition of the Asia Cup tournament- ‘Asia Cup 2022’, is finally being played following postponements since its original schedule in September 2022. The matches are being played in the T20 international format and the host country is the United Arab Emirates. 6 teams are currently playing in the group stage of the tournament. Teams of Group A include India, Pakistan and Hong Kong, while Group B includes Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. The Hong Kong team made their place in the Group Stage by winning the qualifier finals against the UAE team.
Both the matches for India in the Group stage have brought excellent wins. Due to this, India has made a place in the next stage of the tournament i.e. the Super 4. Let’s have a detailed look at how India managed to get a step closer to winning the ‘Asia Cup 2022’ trophy.

India v/s Pakistan:
On 28th August, a match between two of the biggest rivalries in the cricketing world ‘India v/s Pakistan took place. This rivalry probably garners the most attention from cricket fans and this match was no less. It had millions of people glued to their television sets for the epic rivalry. India managed to pull a breakthrough and emerged victorious changing fates after their last loss against Pakistan. With bowling first, Indian bowlers dismissed all Pakistani wickets restricting them to 147. With only 5 wickets down, the Indian batters chased the score with just 2 balls left. It was surely a nail-biting finish.
From the Indian squad, the most phenomenal ‘Player Of The Match’ was deservingly won by Hardik Pandya. The all-rounder was a star player by conceding 3/25 (4) with the ball and power finished the match with a 33*(17) with the bat. Another top bowling performance was made by Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4/26 (4). From the batting side, the openers failed to get the team a headstart but the middle order held things in place. Virat Kohli’s 35(34) knock and Ravindra Jadeja’s 35(29) got the team back on track.
As Pakistan missed their star left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, the young sensation Naseem Shah (19 years old) bowled some terrific spells and won the hearts of cricket fans around the world. With 2 wickets in his bag, he contained only 24 runs in 4 overs. The young gun also completed his final over even after a cramp in his leg and diligently walked out of the field after it. Mohammad Nawaz picked 3 wickets of the star Indian players (Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja). Pakistan’s opener Mohammad Rizwan 43(42) was the only batter who managed to put some decent score on the board while the rest of the order crumbled.
Some records broken during the India-Pakistan match:
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 4-0-26-4 (best bowling figures by an Indian against Pakistan in T20Is.
- Rohit Sharma (3499 runs) highest run-scorer in T20I cricket.
- All 10 wickets were picked by fast bowlers for the 1st time for India in T20I.

India v/s Hong Kong:
Even though many fans called this an easy win, the Hong Kong cricket team sure put up a really great fight. This match was held on 31st August at the Dubai International Stadium. Hong Kong won the toss and decided to bowl first. Even though it seemed like a difficult pitch, the top-order treaded quite well The star ‘Player Of the Match’ was however Suryakumar Yadav 68*(26)/SR-261.54 as he went all guns blazing. With 6 sixes and 6 fours and a great partnership from Virat Kohli 59*(44), they managed to put up a target of 192. The bowlers however did a half-decent job at restricting the Hong Kong batsmen, as they conceded quite a few runs but failed at taking wickets. The best bowling figure was registered by Ravindra Jadeja (4-0-15-1).
The Hong Kong team’s highest scorers were Babar Hayat 41(35) and Kinchit Shah 30(28). The only good bowling figure of their team was registered by Ashish Shukla (4-0-29-1).
India won the match by 40 runs and was the first team from Group A to enter the Super 4 stage. The Pakistan v/s Hong Kong match scheduled on 2nd September will determine the second team to qualify for the Super 4. Well, cricket fans are very sure that this Sunday (4th September), the spectators are yet again going to be treated to an India v/s Pakistan match for sure.
